A series of four 48" by 72" images was inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. The paintings aim to analyze and diagram a person's shift from a mentality of pseudo-realistic, post-industrial ambition, to a deep psychological and emotional understanding of oneself. This effect is achieved through progressional abstraction of the environment the protagonists find themselves in: first a monotone city, then an ever-shifting, colorful Zone.
All paintings are oil on canvas. Additional materials used: charcoal, basswood, rockite, cement, linseed oil, impasto.
